Whisper tone
Before you answer, a brief audio message plays that tells you which telephone number the caller selected. Only you hear it, while the caller on the other end simply perceives a ringing line.
Whether you route business calls to your mobile and want to know it is a work call before you answer, run multiple webshops each with their own number, or use telephone numbers across different countries: the whisper tone tells you every time which number was dialled, so from your very first word you can answer in the right context.
- Hear a beep or your own short intro
- The message is only audible to you
- Know immediately which number was dialled

Benefits of the whisper tone
See how our smart tools help your team work more efficiently, save precious time, and noticeably improve the way your business communicates.
Start right
As soon as you hear the set message, you know which telephone number the call came through, so you can open every call in the right language, tone, and context.
Choose your tone
CallFactory offers six clearly distinct alert tones, and if you prefer something bespoke you simply upload your own audio file that fits your brand or workflow.
Stay professional
You always respond with the right language, tone, and department-specific greeting, so you sound consistent and well-prepared on every incoming call.
How the whisper tone works
When someone dials one of your telephone numbers, our platform answers the call and forwards it to your chosen destination, whether that is a landline, a mobile, or a VoIP system. Before the call connects to you, a brief audio message plays that is audible only to your ear. The caller hears nothing special and simply gets a ringing tone in that same instant, while the whisper message tells you which number was dialled so you know what to expect before you say anything.
The whole process takes less than a second, so there is no perceptible silence or delay on the caller’s end. You hear the whisper message, you know what is coming, and you open the call the right way straight away.
Essential for international numbers
Once your business operates across multiple countries — for example a UK number alongside a German number, a French number, and a Polish number all ringing the same mobile — the whisper tone becomes almost indispensable. Without it you have no way of knowing whether the caller dialled your London, Berlin, or Paris number until they start talking. With the whisper tone you hear “Germany” and open with “Guten Tag” rather than guessing and correcting.
Small teams and sole traders especially benefit, where one person or a handful of colleagues field calls from multiple markets. The whisper tone turns your mobile into a multi-country reception point at that moment, with no need for extra devices or software.
Multiple webshops, one telephone
Many e-commerce businesses run several webshops or brands under one company, each with its own telephone number on the contact page. Without the whisper tone all those calls arrive on the same telephone and you have no idea which shop the customer rang. With the whisper tone you hear “Shop A” or “Shop B” before you answer and greet the customer immediately with the right brand name and context.
The same works for businesses with separate numbers per department — such as sales, support, and accounts — that all land with a small team. The whisper message tells you which number was selected so you greet the caller correctly every time, which eliminates the awkward “Sorry, which company did you say you were calling?”
Forward to mobile without an app
Some VoIP providers force you to install an app on your mobile to separate business calls from personal ones. That approach has some tedious drawbacks, because app-based calls run over the internet and therefore depend on your data connection. In practice that means missed calls, poor audio quality, and dropped connections, especially when you are out and about or in areas with patchy mobile coverage.
There is another issue: not everyone wants to install business software on their personal phone. Asking colleagues to put company apps on their personal device meets resistance, and if someone then refuses or forgets, work calls go unanswered.
CallFactory solves this by routing your business calls directly via the mobile network to your standard mobile number, just like any other phone call. No app is involved and no internet link is needed. The call comes through reliably with normal call quality. The whisper message plays before the call connects, so you know straight away it is a business call and can answer professionally. Your personal number stays personal, your work calls do not get lost, and you do not rely on an internet link.
Six built-in tones or your own recording
CallFactory provides six distinct standard whisper tones so you can assign a different tone to each number and tell them apart instantly. If you prefer something more specific you simply upload your own audio file — for example a spoken “Sales line”, “French number”, or a short jingle that matches your brand. You change the whisper tone whenever you like through the dashboard with no downtime or disruption to active calls.
Simple and at no extra cost
The whisper tone is included at no extra cost with every CallFactory number. There is nothing to install and no per-call charges, so you activate it from the dashboard in a few clicks, assign a tone or recording to each number, and use it immediately.
This feature is included free with every UK telephone number or international telephone number.

Whisper tone FAQ
Find clear answers about the whisper tone and how it works in practice for your business.
No. The whisper message is audible only to you, the person answering the call. The caller hears an ordinary ringing tone during that same instant and does not notice a whisper message is being used.
Yes. You assign a different tone or recording to each number, so you might choose a beep for your UK number, a spoken “Germany” for your German number, and “Support line” for your customer service. That way you know which number was dialled from the signal alone.
The message plays in less than a second, and because the caller hears a ringing tone during that same instant, there is no perceptible delay from their perspective. Once you answer, the call connects as normal.
Yes. You upload your own audio file through the dashboard, such as a brief spoken sentence or a department name, and it is applied straight away. You replace or update the recording later with no impact on active calls.
This is one of the most common situations. Because the whisper tone tells you which country the caller selected before you answer, you greet the caller in the right language straightaway, whereas without that information you would have to guess or switch languages partway through.
Yes. The whisper tone is included at no extra cost with every CallFactory number, with no per-call charges or setup fees.
Yes. You switch the whisper message on or off per number through the dashboard, so you might enable it for your international numbers but not for your main UK number.
No. Whereas some providers mandate a mobile app for business calls, CallFactory routes calls directly via the mobile network to your standard number. There is no app, no internet dependency, and no installation needed, so your colleagues never need to put company software on their personal phone. The whisper message plays automatically before the call connects, and you simply use your own phone.
Yes, this is a common scenario. You assign each webshop its own number with its own whisper message, so when an incoming call arrives you already know which shop it is before you answer. That way you greet the customer with the right brand name and open the right order system straight away.
